In our modern world the prevalence of 'lifestyle diseases' is growing. We are living longer but, not necessarily healthier. We turn towards quick fixes, latest fad diets, social influencers, supplements and medications to address symptoms we experience. Yes, for immediate symptom relief medication can play a role especially for acute health conditions but, to achieve long lasting health outcomes it's important we also address the underlying cause of the problem otherwise we enter into a lifelong cycle of symptom management.
Finding the root cause of disease is the key to alleviating symptoms and overcoming health problems. Why? Because the root cause is the origin, the source of the disease, its the thing causing your symptoms and its also the block, stopping you from reaching your ultimate health goal. Just like the roots of a tree are deep underground so are the root causes of our health problems.
Our quality of our life is highly dependant upon the quality of our health, just like the quality of fruits of a tree are the result of the quality of the soil. The soil provides the environment that support the roots, which nourish the tree, its branches & fruits. Our lifestyle, our environment is like the soil, they nourish our bodies and have the potential to produce good health.
'Symptoms are the results of imbalances in our bodies'
To make this clearer let's use IBS as an example, a common gut health issue encountered by many including myself. For years I tried to manage the symptoms with various over the counter medications, from aloe vera juice to peppermint tea and peppermint oil tablets and yes they alleviated some symptoms but they didn't make the IBS go away. They acted like a band aid solution and I kept experiencing symptoms visiting my health food store to buy another bottle of aloe juice. It was only when I discovered the root causes for my IBS (emotional and food sensitivities) that I was able to eliminate symptoms and IBS from my life!
Finding the root cause helps save money & time on unnecessary medications and supplements.
So how do you find the root cause? First you'll need to find out the why? how? when? and what? have contributed to your health problem then, adopt a solution focused approach, that considers diet & lifestyle factors working from the inside-out, for long lasting health outcomes.
Overcoming you health problems and living a long health & happy life is achievable. Change the focus from the symptoms to the root cause.
